Daisy Meeting 5-9-09

I don't have any pictures for this meeting because we were practicing for the the Daisy Party & Bridging Ceremony tomorrow! It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you what we did, but I can tell you that it ended in a sit-upon pillow fight! :)

And the girls will understand this one...just ask!
blah blah blah, blahblah blah blah, blahblah blah blah, blah supercalifragilistic expialidocious! :)

See you tomorrow!

Police Department Field Trip 4-23-09

This meeting was a field trip to the Gilbert Police Department. We took a tour to earn our "Respect Authority" petal. Here are the girls being told the rules by our very nice volunteer and retired policeman, Ron.
Here the girls met the ladies that answer the 911 calls. They were very interested to know that if you call 911 by accident, not to hang up because they know who you are and they WILL call you back.
Kick those tires Morgan! Make sure that cycle is up to par for our officers!
Katlind tried out the helmet with a built in phone!
The girls will tell you that these are not the most comfortable seats in the back of the police car, but they all wanted to sit in them!
They loved sitting in the front too...
Bad boys, bad boys, watcha gonna do?
Watcha going to do when they come for you? Wooooo Daisy!
Posing with the cop car...a policeman turned on their siren for them too!
Here is the dummy they practice on...name him what you will...we did! How courageous and strong of you girls!
Inside the first door to the jail...a big horn goes off when it locks!
They learned all about evidence and how to preserve it.
The women's locker room was a favorite spot...and so was the bullet proof vest!

Daisy Meeting 4-9-09

This meeting was all about being honest and fair. We played red light, green light to give the girls a chance to be honest about whether or not they moved, and fair about going back to start if they did. It was up to them, and they did it all on their own! Way to go girls!Afterwards, they came inside for an egg hunt...a fair and honest one! Each girl was allowed to collect 5 eggs each.
Then they opened the eggs and made sure that everyone had the same number of jelly beans. Talk about being fair!

Jennifer (Kaycie's mom) tipped me off that these ADORABLE headbands were available at Target. Thanks Jennifer!Could they be any cuter?!
Wooooo Daisy! :)

Daisy Meeting 3-26-09

We continued earning the petal "Responsible for What I Say and Do" at this meeting. The girls painted themselves on a perfectly shaped brick. It is now a decoration for your yard, but a message to the girls that whatever they choose to do with their lives, they will leave a mark on this world. It is up to them to decide what kind of mark they will leave. They talked about it and want to be known as kind, caring, and silly. Sounds good to me. :)
(Did I mention I love these girls?!)

The second half of the meeting the girls spent time doing something that they've been wanting to do FOREVER. Have recess! I know they get three of these a day, but it's what they wanted and Girl Scouting is girl led afterall! :)

These shots aren't perfect, but you try to take pictures of 9 girls running in 9 different directions! :)We had a visitor too! :) Lauren's Mom, Megan!

A Message to Our Out of State Daisy Makayla!

Daisy Meeting 3-12-09

During this meeting we started earning the petal "Responsible for What I Say and Do." The girls were given a boiled egg to take care of, as I'm sure you'll all remember. ;) They sure had fun decorating them and putting them in their nests! Not all the eggs made it back in one piece, in fact, only Katlind's Siamese twin egg was completely unharmed, but they all looked well played with. :)
Afterwards, they did a little exercise with toothpaste. The girls were told to empty the toothpaste into the cup...
They thought this was funny...when do you ever get to squeeze a whole tube out at ONCE?!The girls were then told to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Chaos, I tell you! Confusion and futile showed them that once you say or do something...it's out there. You can apologize for it and be forgiven, of course, but you can't take it back. This exercise taught them to be careful and think about what they do and say beforehand. Watch the video below (you may have to go to the blog to see it) to see their cute reactions!

Upcoming Events

I can't believe we have had our last official meeting...this year went by WAY too fast! :(

At our last meeting, it was amazing to think back and remember the itty bitty girls that had walked through the door the first time, and see the ones that were running the meeting that day. They look so much older and are really comfortable in our little troop. :)

We have some dates coming up and some plans for the summer that I want to give you a heads up about.

1. The first you may know something about....it's our end of the year Daisy Party and Bridging Ceremony.

This is a Girl Scout tradition, like the investiture they had at the beginning of the year. All family members are invited. This time, all the girls will receive their one year star with a blue disc. The first graders will be bridging over into Brownies as well. They have a little show they prepared to put on for you as well. :)

Troop 1866 Daisy Party & Bridging Ceremony
May 20, 2009
6:30pm
Islands Cafeteria

After the ceremony, we will serve refreshments, Brownies & Beverages. If you would like to bring something that would be great too!

2. The next event is our Backyard Campout. Holly (Katlind's mom) has kindly offered up her home and huge backyard for us to enjoy. They have a pool, trampoline, and even a fire pit to roast marshmallows on. Thanks to Amy (Kira's mom) we have plenty of tents to hold all the girls. Moms are invited to join the troop for this event. There will be crafts, games, etc.

The next day, we will be going to the Phoenix Zoo, where Amy is arranging an encounter of some sort through her zookeeper friend. (Thanks Amy!) I also found a Backyard Camping Patch for the girls to put on the back of their vests! :)

Troop 1866 Backyard Campout
May 28 & 29th
Time TBA
More details coming!

3. The girls are interested in seeing a play together. Hale Theater is currently showing a child's production of Sleeping Beauty on Saturdays at 11am. The girls would be able to come in their princess best and there are autographs afterwards. Thanks to my party business, I have plenty of princess dresses available should you like to borrow one. If I could get an idea of how many girls/moms would like to come, I can figure out the date for this one. I believe the last showing is June 27th.

4. I believe we will still have money for one more event. Details to come on that. :)

PLEASE, pretty please, with sugar on top! :)

Please let me know if your daughter will or won't be able to attend an event so I can get a good grip on how many tickets to buy, supplies to get, etc.

Thank you so much! :)

Daisy Meeting 2-26-09hb

How is your bucket doing today? Is it full? Did you fill someone else's bucket today?

This was the best story. Melissa ran this meeting and read to the girls to help them earn their "Make the World a Better Place" petal. In the story, the grandfather explains how everyone has a bucket and whether it is full or empty determines whether that person is happy or sad. To be happy, to fill your own bucket, you have to focus on filling the buckets of OTHERS. When you do or say a nice thing to them, you are not only depositing happiness into their bucket, but your own as well.
The girls even got their own buckets full of confetti and candy. Katlind explained that she and her mom do experiments like this in the grocery store, where they smile at the people they pass. It's contagious...the other person smiles back and forgets for a minute whatever they seemed to be grumpy about. Good idea Katlind! They spent the rest of the meeting complimenting each other and would proudly say, "Look! I just filled her bucket!" This bucket thing has really caught on with us. The girls will refer to it when they are sharing in the Daisy circle. "It really empties my bucket when..." or "I filled so and so's bucket today when I..." Too cute, and so important. Now 11 little Daisies are spreading cheer! They also made coloring pages that have been sent to nursing homes around the country. Woo Daisy! And how cute is this? Jeri (Constance's mom) made homemade treats for the girls. They LOVED their chocolate daisies! Thanks Jeri!
